The manuf. date on the motor should be 1997 or after.  You can use a personalized password up to 10,000 combinations and you can easily change it. You can also use temporary passwords ("pass numbers" would better describe it) for visitors or service persons. You can even limit the amount of time you want this temp. password to last. While YOUR password remains the same till you change it-the code between the keyless entry and receiver changes each time you use it.
